Petals to planets
By: Fatima Drott There once was a red petal. A part of a rose. Existing on a stem, of leaves and thorns. Being held in a human hand, full of hardened skin. Thorns digging into, the flesh of the palm. But both the pain and the blood were ignored, by the human. A man kneeling in the grass, by his daughter’s grave. On the stone was only her name, and years, telling anyone, she died too young. The silence felt all consuming. Especially, because he wasn’t alone. Other people were with him, clothed in black, for the funeral. Friends, colleagues, and family stood behind him. No one knowing what to say. So instead, they stood, as shadows, made human by the sun. Beyond the graveyard, was the city. A place full of life, something that for the father, felt like a cruel joke, on this day of pain and sorrow. With buildings both old and new, it was a labyrinth, of shops, homes, and other amenities. Paved roads led everywhere, you could want to go, and were therefore, constantly used, by more happy people, than those grieving. Doves on the ceilings, hoping for bread or other food to eat, looked down on the human families, with searching eyes. Farther away, from the human hub of activity, houses got fewer, as did the people. Instead, there was acres of land, growing different types of grain. Until even those, got left behind, for wilderness. Forests full of different trees, shadowing the lives within. Because above, the sun was still shining, strong and warm, over everything. Not really caring, for what happened below it. Lonely lives, to packs and civilisations, of insects, birds, and other animals, stop to matter, when we look beyond the earth. Still some astronauts, working on some satellites, cares for their home planet and all that it entails. Families, friends, and foreigners to their personal lives, only the human commonality, that connects all of us, as a strange social species, not even we understand. Surrounding the earth, both satellites and our moon travel round and round in harmony, only broken by disrupting asteroids, once in a while. In all of that, earth’s moon continues to play with earths water, like an easily entertained child. Constantly gazing on the world below, full of life, as opposed, to the space further away, it’s unable to see. If anyone could survive the vacuum of space, the distance between physical matter, they would be surrounded by the smell of raspberries. Because the shape of the molecules, is the same as those making up the raspberries smell. Space wherein Mercurius to Pluto continue to dance, around our happy and warm sun. All part of the same crowd. Everything connected by gravity and stories as old as time. Like a living labyrinth of strange veins, connected by energies unseen. Visible only, in the movement of planets, our solar system flowers. They are full of grains, representing petals when they are details of planets, instead of roses. Hard lesson
By: Fatima Drott Thoughts, feelings, and soul, surrounds me, like a cocoon. I am more exposed, than those around me. They don’t know the need, of having to put all they are, on the line, just to live. Pretending, isn’t possible for me when I constantly have to put my heart out, for predators. Hoping they won’t shred it to pieces. Knowing that is asking for a miracle. Still, I don’t have a choice. Can’t stop being myself. No matter how much easier, it would make my life. So, I stand in the middle of a hurricane. Seeing everything else fly by, on the currents of chaos. Have forgotten what pieces originated from me, in a world, constantly asking for more. Nothing is enough. For the strange beast, that is reality. Day by day, I lose more of myself. Constantly needing, to put my soul, into everything I do. Only hoping, I don’t use more, than what can be healed, by time. Whispers, of judgement, follow me. Everyone has an opinion, about a life, that isn’t theirs. Constantly telling me, I am living my life wrong. Unknowingly, coming with words of wisdom, already tried, and proven as useless, at least for me. Still, they awaken my memories, tasting of bitterness and tears. For my past, was littered with listening, to people, with other strengths, weaknesses, and lives, than me. Their truths were therefore never applicable to my life. A hard lesson, almost learned, too late. Identity
By: Fatima Drott A mirror isn’t enough, to see who you are. For truth, is seldom, skin deep. We are more than a reflection can capture. What we believe, changes, what we see. Never are our eye’s objective. Connected as they are, to our identity, experiences, and preconceived notions. Therefore, I try to define, who I am, with articulated thoughts, and actions in the world. It’s a dialog, without an end. Words given meaning, only with time. Sometimes, it is whispers, getting lost in the wind. Other times, it is a yell among the mountains, echoing into your bones. A heaviness unacceptable, telling me, and you, who we have to be. Destiny getting wrapped around us, like a blanket. Deceptively soft, in its hash restraints. Until our choices disappears. Worlds narrative
By: Fatima Drott You told me, the hero’s story, as if, it is the only one, as if, I can’t have my own way, of existing. As if, there is only one way, to be, in the world. Instead, of the other billions, of other truths, surrounding us, every day. Constantly changing, the worlds narrative, in small, and almost, invisible ways. Forsaking strength
By: Fatima Drott They told me, I’m not allowed, to be myself. Because, that picture, is too, complicated. Instead, I have to pretend, that I’m less, than my truth. Forsaking, my strength, just to be, accepted. Fraction
By: Fatima Drott When you define yourself, you either loose or win, personal strength. The choice is personal, and the wrong one, tends to make you miserable. But the world doesn’t have to know. It’s your life, to do what you wish with. Either way, I still believe, one fact, about you, is less than a fraction, of what makes you, into who you are. Alike
By: Fatima Drott Differences, is diversity, and strength. A truth, I thought, was universal. Still, we are, surrounded, by a world, drowning, in places, things, and people, cultivated, to be alike, if not total, clones. Depths
By: Fatima Drott Signed the letter, with part of my soul. Making it more real, than everything else. Because most of the world, exist as empty shells, of things, and sometimes, even people. Often, I hope, that is only my personal impression. That the depths, is only hidden. Tucked away, in protection for people’s safety and benefit. Will probably, never truly know. All I can do, is live my life. Being as present as possible. Ready to listen to other individuals’ truth and experiences. In the hope, of seeing depths, that aren’t my own.
